3 Misconceptions about Artificial Grass

If you want a perfectly gorgeous lawn that looks like it’s the real deal but comes with much less maintenance hassle, artificial grass might be just what you are looking for. Whether or not you want to install artificial turf in your lawn is a highly personal decision that comes with a lot of advantages, less time and money spent is one of them. However, there are many misconceptions surrounding fake grass that can affect your decision to have one on your lawn. So here are some most common myths about artificial grass and the truth behind them.

1. Myth one- Artificial Grass is bad for the Environment :

Artificial turf is non-toxic, reduces your carbon footprint, and uses less water. Unlike real grass, artificial turf does not use pesticides, herbicides, or fertilizers and requires much less water. Switching to an artificial turf will let you save on an average of 100,000 gallons of water every year. Artificial turf does not require mowing which reduces both harmful emissions and grass clippings. If you are using a push mower on your natural turf, it emits as much pollution as 11 cars in approximately one hour. A riding mover can emit pollution as much as 34 cars.

When artificial grass with rubber infill was introduced, it was immensely scrutinized by many health researchers, and many independent studies were carried out which eventually verified that rubber infill does not pose any kind of health risk to people or pets. Various studies were carried out which focused on toxicities based on possible ingestion, dermal contact, or inhalation but there were no links found between rubber infill and cancer or any other diseases.

If you don’t want bare patches, doggy holes, or muddy paws, artificial turf might be the best option for you. It’s perfectly safe for your pets. In fact, some artificial turfs are made especially for dogs. You need not worry if your artificial lawn has a properly installed drainage system so that all the liquid waste such as your dog’s urine can easily flush out of the drainage holes. Solid waste removal is done in the same way as natural grass; just make sure to choose an artificial turf with short blades to make your cleanup process easier.
